How to compare LPG suppliers in Ireland
LPG for the home is sold in two ways: bottled gas in cylinders (priced per cylinder, by weight) and bulk gas delivered to a tank (priced per litre). Smart Refuel doesn’t sell gas and doesn’t list supplier prices, so this page helps you compare the quotes you get.
What to ask every supplier
- The price per cylinder and how many kg of gas it holds, or the price per litre for bulk.
- Any deposit, cylinder rental, delivery charge and minimum order.
- For bulk: tank rental or purchase, standing charges, and the length of the contract.
- Whether prices are fixed or can change between deliveries.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a gas cylinder in Ireland?
The price of an LPG gas cylinder in Ireland depends on the supplier, the cylinder size, whether you pay a deposit or rental, and where you live. Smart Refuel does not sell gas or list supplier prices, so check current prices with your supplier. Use the calculator on this page to turn any quote into a price per kg and per litre so you can compare like with like.
How much is Calor Gas or Flogas per litre?
LPG for homes is usually sold by the cylinder (by weight) or, for bulk tanks, by the litre. Prices change and differ by supplier and region, so ask for the current price per litre (bulk) or per cylinder (bottled). Enter the cylinder price and its weight in the calculator to see the cost per kg and the equivalent price per litre.
How do I convert LPG price per kg to price per litre?
One litre of liquid propane weighs about 0.51 kg, so there are roughly 1.96 litres in a kilogram. Price per litre ≈ price per kg × 0.51. The calculator does this for you.
How do I compare bulk LPG prices?
Compare the price per litre, but also the delivery charge, any minimum order, standing or tank rental charges, and the length of the contract. A lower price per litre can be more expensive overall if rental or delivery charges are higher.
Can I refill my own gas cylinder?
No. Domestic LPG cylinders are normally owned by the supplier and must only be refilled by the supplier. Swap an empty cylinder for a full one at a stockist or arrange a delivery.
Is this the price of LPG for cars?
No. Autogas (LPG for cars) sold at filling stations is on our LPG prices page, which shows the national average price per litre.
